How to book an ADHD assessment
At the Centre for ADHD Research and Excellence (CARE ADHD), we aim to make it as easy as possible for you to access an adult ADHD assessment. Whether you are seeking care privately or through the NHS, this guide will walk you through the process.
Eligibility
Our assessment services are available for adults (18+) who:
Suspect they may have ADHD and wish to pursue a formal diagnosis.
Are based in England
We’re regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), which regulates healthcare in England only. As a responsible healthcare provider we recognise that Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own healthcare regulators
If you are unsure about your eligibility, feel free to contact us for clarification [insert support team contact details].
What is the referral process?
You have two options:
Private route: No GP referral needed. You can self-refer by registering directly on our website and paying the £299 fee.
Right to Choose route (RTC): You do need a GP referral under the NHS Right to Choose framework. Your GP sends the referral to us, and we carry out the assessment funded by the NHS.
What happens after I have been referred or signed up privately?
Pre-assessment questionnaires: Whether you are referred via your GP or you register as a private client, you'll need to complete some pre-assessment questionnaires, and we'll need a copy of your ID and Summary Care Record before we can book your assessment.
Assessment booking: Once you've completed these steps, we'll give you a call (usually within 7-14 days) and will agree a date and time for your assessment appointment. We have a large number of fantastic clinicians, which means we can usually book an assessment date within around 4 weeks (often sooner if your availability is flexible).
Assessments take place online via a video consultation. Please take a look at this article for more information on what to expect during your assessment, and to watch a video of a full assessment taking place.
