How to access our medication services

Edited

We offer professional, CQC-regulated medication services for adults diagnosed with ADHD, including NHS-funded and private options. Whether you’re starting treatment, continuing care, or exploring alternatives, our goal is to make accessing the right support as straightforward as possible.

Who can use our medication services?

Our medication services are available to:

  • New patients: Adults diagnosed with ADHD who need medication initiation and titration.

  • Existing patients: Those already receiving ADHD medication who wish to transfer their care to us for ongoing treatment and reviews.

  • NHS patients and private clients: We offer services funded by the NHS through Right to Choose, as well as options for private clients who prefer to pay directly for their care.

Steps to access our medication services

1. Initial assessment or transfer of care

  • People who don't currently take ADHD medication: If you’ve been diagnosed with ADHD through CARE ADHD or another provider, you can start medication with us. If you haven’t had an ADHD assessment yet, you’ll need to complete this first.

  • People already taking ADHD medication: If you’re already on ADHD medication and want to transfer your care to us, we’ll review your current treatment plan and medical history. Please contact us via enquiries@careadhd.co.uk to discuss this further.

2. Referral and documentation

⚠️ You'll need a diagnosis of ADHD before you can start taking ADHD medication. If you haven't yet been assessed, please view this article for more information on getting assessed.

To get started on our medication pathway:

NHS patients via Right to Choose

  • We’ll need a referral from your GP if you’re accessing our service via Right to Choose.

  • Your GP will share your Summary Care Record (SCR) with us, along with any other relevant medical information.

  • We’ll also need a copy of your photo ID, physical health observations (we’ll provide you with a form for this), and diagnosis report (if you were diagnosed elsewhere).

If your GP refers you to us for an ADHD assessment and treatment, we’ll be in touch with you directly to guide you through the next steps once the referral is processed.

🔵 Please note: Right to Choose typically does not cover transferring only the treatment phase to a different provider, after diagnosis elsewhere. For more information on your options as a Right to Choose patient, please see this article.

Private Clients

  • If you'd like to join us as a private client and you are not already taking ADHD medication, please make payment for the full titration pathway via this link.

  • Please Note: If you do not already have a diagnosis of ADHD, you will first need to be assessed. You can pay for a private assessment via this link

  • We’ll need you to send us a copy of your photo ID, physical health observations (we’ll provide you with a form for this), and diagnosis report (if you were diagnosed elsewhere).

  • You’ll also need to send us your Summary Care Record (SCR), which you can get from your GP.

Once we receive a payment for any of our services, we’ll reach out within a few days via email to guide you through the next steps.

3. Titration process (for people new to medication)

If you’re starting ADHD medication, you’ll begin with a titration process. This involves:

  • Trying different doses or medications to find the most effective option for your needs.

  • Regular monitoring and communication with our clinical team to ensure your safety and the effectiveness of treatment.

Please view this article for full details of the titration pathway.

4. Ongoing medication reviews

Once you are stable on your chosen treatment for at least 8 weeks, we’ll schedule annual reviews to monitor your progress and adjust your prescription if needed.

If you’d like to see us more frequently you can book in a review at any time by making payment via this link

How are medications prescribed?

Our clinicians will issue prescriptions for ADHD medications as required. These can be:

  • NHS-funded: Provided via the Right to Choose scheme, and then Share Care – all you pay is the standard NHS prescription cost (currently £9.90/item, unless you’re eligible for free NHS prescriptions). In some cases a delivery fee will apply if medication is being posted to your home address.

  • Privately funded: Fees apply for consultations, prescriptions, and reviews.

When your prescription is issued it gets sent to our partner pharmacy, Broadway Pharmacy. The pharmacy will send you a link directly via email through which you can make payment for your medication (unless you have been referred via Right to Choose and are eligible for free NHS prescriptions). Once you’ve made payment via the link, the pharmacy will package your medication and send it securely to your home address.

Breakdown of costs

NHS-funded (Right to Choose):

If you have been referred via your GP, you will not be charged for titration or any annual reviews. These services will be funded by the NHS under the Right to Choose framework.

The cost of your medication is also subsidised by the NHS and therefore you will only be charged the normal NHS prescription rate (currently £9.90/item), unless you are eligible for free NHS prescriptions.

Private Clients

If you pay for your medication treatment privately, the costs are as follows:

  • Full Titration Pathway: £499

  • Cost of Medication: Varies depending on medication and dose, but on average people pay between £75-£160/month. Please contact our partner pharmacy for specific medication prices.

  • Annual/Ad-Hoc Medication Reviews: £140

  • Rescheduling of Missed Appointments: £140

  • Post-Titration Prescription Fee (unless you transfer to Shared Care): £20/month + the cost of your medication

Please note: We send a Shared Care Agreement to your GP as part of our titration service. This allows you to access prescriptions at the NHS rate once titration ends, even if you have gone through titration privately. Your GP will need to agree to Shared Care, so we recommend checking with your surgery first to make sure your GP is open to this. If your GP accepts the agreement, you’ll just need to see us for an annual review at a cost of £140 to make sure your prescription is still right for you. You can of course book a medication review with us more frequently than this, or on an ad-hoc basis, if required.
